Aye, modern pentathlon.

He didn't acquitted himself brilliantly with pistol, but he was using a military gun and not a proper target pistol like his competitors, so to even qualify was quite something.

Then, of course, there is this whole sequence!! 😍

Hollywood is often (and quite rightly so) criticised for getting things wrong, but every so often, they capture something that is a real gem and almost a historic film in its own right. This is one.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you the (relatively) short lived predecessor to the B52... The B36!!

Enjoy and turn up the volume!; Hear the throb of the engines, the squeal of the tyres as it taxis, the jets starting... See that thing shaking and straining at the leash to go, before the brakes are released and it ROARS down the runway!!:

Oh and this. I first saw this at the cinema when I was 12 or 13. How could I not have become transfixed by it all?
Seeing that on the BIG SCREEN, complete with all the sound and music, it just did something to me that day and when the video came out, I watched it time and time again!

By the way, the zero gravity scenes were filmed on the 'Vomit Comit', so were genuine, if just not actually in space.

The main character here, Jim Lovell, played by Tom Hanks, only died a month or two ago aged 97.

Can you see a theme emerging here? ☺️🤦‍♂️🤣:
