For me - Nirvana

Hard to pick one - check them all out.

I came down in favour of their cover of David Bowie's "The man who sold the world"

I've never seen any MTV shows but I saw Joe Ely and Joel Guzman play an acoustic set at Dingwalls which was very good, just vocals, guitar and accordian - there's a CD of it (Live Cactus!) and it's very good.

Been listening to The Pizza Tapes recently too, it's an acoustic session with Jerry Garcia, David Grisman and Tony Rice - lovely stuff and you can tell the guys are really enjoying themselves too.

But as well as rock and roll, I like old country, bluegrass and some folk, most of it is acoustic and so a big part of my record collection is acoustic anyway :becool:

Pearl Jam did a cracking session... seemed less "accoustic" than some somehow, more just a live set... but good all the same. Eddie Vedder has loads of passion and a great voice (IMO) for the style of music.

The rendition of Alive was rather excellent.

The problem I've always had with the Nirvana Unplugged session is how over produced it is like so many 90's american 'alternative' rock. All these beautiful delicate instruments squished and tweaked into synthetic oblivion.

I'd love someone to track down the original multitracks, but sadly suspect it would have been mixed live and recorded out to stereo at broadcast spec, hence being all squished.

I really loved the session The Cure did back in ... oh my God ... 1991 - twenty years ago! Wow that makes me feel old. They properly went the whole unplugged route - them all sitting on cushions, drummer playing simple percussion rather than full kit, just kind of experimenting playing synthpop songs with acoustic instruments!

He still looks like that, you know. He's over 50 years old and still looks like that.
