Road ahead is clear and I start to roll forward slowly. I roll forward a foot or so forward and she stops, fag in mouth and is now walking backwards.
Bizarre. Did you figure out why she was doing this?

CoG - I commute through SW12 and I work in that area. Believe me you did nothing wrong.

Chalk this one down to Chav's thinking they own the world.... yesterday I watched a driver of a Sainsburys lorry turn left at a junction in Balham, whilst on a mobile, the back of his lorry mounted the pavement and a women with a buggy and a bloke pushing some trolley thing had to step back or they would have gone under the wheels.

So your little mishap is nothing so don't fret.

And yes, I did pass on the drivers details... there could easily have been 3 dead right there.

Maybe she was a fan of the Goons and was Walking Backwards to Christmas. Stupid woman. And of course, that'll go down in her own private mythology as some lycra lout hitting her kid.

Hopefully the kid'll grow up with more sense...

.. and possibly as an "all cyclists are lycra louts" post on some newpaper's website somewhere.

if you want some DA ...

peds always have the right of way in that you're not supposed to run into them just because they're in the way

Tricky to avoid them if they actually step back into you though.. I know what you mean, and if she'd been in front of Crock, or just about to pass in front, no doubt he'd have waited (in fact since he only looked up at lights once they were passed and his light was green, he obviously did wait). But to have someone walk backwards into you, it's hard to give way to them then.

Tynan you stirrer! Yes you're right in principle but it sounds like the OP had done everything he could to avoid hitting them but they were determined it should happen! If he's done everything he reasonably can to mitigate the risk and the other party's behavior is so erratic that a collision occurs then it's not his responsibility.

as I recall, you're not supposed to be on a ped crossing if a ped is, perhaps that's only zebras, perhaps not

you should certainly be watching them, saying they walked backwards into you is like saying they came from nowhere

not digging you out crock, just arguing the toss

You could well be right. When I read it I assumed it was just a set of lights at a junction but the OP mentions the green pedestrian light so I think I'm wrong. If that's the case then it's one for the legal guys. Is it wrong to be on a ped crossing when the ped's crossed on the red?

if they started crossing on green then you must wait until they've cleared the crossing before moving off. Not a legal guy though, but this is fairly basic stuff

That's the basic stuff. Think we're all clear on the situation if they started on green. But what if they didn't? What if they started on red and were still there when it was green?
