Has anyone felt unwell after being out on a ride?

I went out on the bike yesterday - 35 miles with a few hills - nothing too taxing to be honest. A few hours afterwards and today I feel a bit unwell with flu like symptoms and really tired. Anyone else ever felt like this?

Nausea? That could mean low blood sugar or dehydration.

Could be a whole range of things from minor to more serious (as usual). If it persists / gets worse / recurs go to the docs

It was most likely not the ride that caused the flu-like symptoms, the ride probably just exaggerated what you already had. As @MartinQ said, if it gets bad see a doctor, otherwise best of luck getting over it and I hope you're back on the bike soon.

As above, you’re probably just brewing a cold. If the proper flu (not that man flu nonsense ;) ) you’d be unable to move and wouldn’t be posting on here

Was it raining? How cold?

It seems to be pretty common, if google's autocomplete can be relied on.

No rain. It wasn't that cold - I get warm very quickly on the bike. We did stop for lunch though and I was really cold before we got going again

Happened to me a couple times over the years. I always suspected (afterwards of course) I was on the edge of a virus perhaps but didn' realise it, then the physical exercise depleted me....causing me to crash (metaphorically speaking)

Edited to say...i always thought, cycling will soon highlight or bring forward any unwellness that was dwelling. There's also been a couple times I felt ok, went out for a ride, only to give up within a few miles. It just wasn' there, no point in pushing on, something's ailing me.

Exercise can depress the immune system for a period after, opening the window for an illness to take. Sometimes it may just be overtraining / exercise with not enough rest. A bit of rest and recovery can often clear it. It can be easy to overdo it given the weather we have had the past few months.
