I fell off my bike at some roadworks a short while ago. My little Brompton wheels couldn't handle the mess the builders had left all over the road.

A white van driver stopped and asked if I was ok. I said yes. He then proceeded to laugh his head off.

My pride was seriously damaged. Also injured my thigh in the process. Got no sympathy from the family either. There advice was to get a "proper" bike with big wheels.

There are the main issues ! :headshake:
  • off-road ...
  • pothole ...
If it's off-road, it can't possibly have been a 'pothole' ... it must have been a 'washed-out boulder hole, covered with foliage, probably a deliberate trap'.
Speaking as an ex(very ex) caver, can I point out that many potholes are off road.

That isn't embarrassing....what IS embarrassing is riding slowly on your MTB up a small dirt covered slope, chatting away then just grinding to a halt and keeling over in slo-mo, in front of your mates.
Yes I did. :thanks:
Edited to add I'm glad you're okay!
