Hi. I'm planning to do some touring in May, June or July this year. It's only a rough idea at the moment but I'm hoping to go somewhere in Europe, probably Spain, France or Germany and cycle from place to place over 7-8 days. I'll be doing between 50-80 miles a day, carrying my own luggage and staying in youth hostels to keep the price down. As I'm female (29) I'm ideally looking for a female travelling companion but I'll consider any easy going, respectable male as I know female touring cyclists are a bit thin on the ground. Thanks. Heather

Hello and welcome.

Not sure how many replies you'll get, but good luck anyway.

As a tip, try posting a diary on Crazyguyonabikedotcom and you might meet some like-minded females there.

I can't help with the touring companion bit, cos I is a gentleman of the large hairy-bottomed variety.

I would be up for that.
But alas, I am a bloke and I am 45 years old.
I am capable of the distances as I regularly do 50 milers and have done one 100 miler.
I too am thinking of doing my first tour soon.
It will be Glasgow to Inverness or C2C.
Hope you find a buddy to accompany you.

Orbital81, I might possibly be interested. I'm doing a short tour at the end of May/early June with a couple of friends, I'm busy all August but I might like to consider another tour in July. Thing is, for me it would have to be Germany only...

Careful Helen - make sure you meet Orbital before you set off on tour - it could be Patrick Stevens in disguise!

I don't think Patrick would (or could) put himself through any one of those ordeals just to ingratiate himself with the ladies.

I think his 'style' is more smoking jacket, waxed moustache and the offer of 'some more Madeira, my dear'.

Hi Heather it's a possibility for later in summer if I am fit and healthy enough to do the miles--and I would need to figure out the best way to transport my stuff!

My preference would be Spain, then France with Germany last.

Just noticed anyway that I'm outside her age range at a fossilised 38...

But you're young at heart, Helen...

(as, I think, am I. I'm even more fossilised than you!)

I think age is a red herring. Orbital might be best advised just to meet up with a few people, and see how they get on - I regularly cycle with retired friends, and the age doesn't matter - most of them are way fitter than me, and it's the cycling and humour we have in common...

I can see that a teenager might not want to be saddled with a mother figure, but past the mid twenties, I don't think it matters so much.

Fossilised?? You mean you are going to look 28 for ever... (apparently 40 is the new 30, so you must look 28 ;)).
