If I'm paying for the fence, I get the good side.

If you live on an estate the conveyance plan your solicitor gets from the housebuilder normally includes 'T' marks on the side of the boundary which indicates who owns it, the posts are put up on the owner's side and the boards or rails sit against the the boundary, if there are no T markings then the fence and any replacement or maintenance is classed as a 'garden wall condition' which is the joint responsibility of both sides.

Technically, no fence in Basingstoke has a 'good side'.

Well we have Reading and Slough a few miles to the North and Winchester a few miles to the south so perhaps they all have a good side!

When I started this thread I was not sure if I was going to get one reply saying "get a life- no one else notices or cares about this" so I am really please this little thing does seem to matter to others and even that people seem to mostly agree with my thoughts!

I had not thought about how easy the "wrong" side is to climb up.

Really ?

We put up a lovely new fence of just over 6ft due to some shed break ins & a nosey neighbour attached one side (who also stole our bin).

The neighbour attached other side then used it as cover to bring in his cannabis farm paraphernalia, most likely bought from a local friendly hydroponics centre but mostly self made.

It then took us a whole year to get him evicted & sent down & a very bitter battle of wills (I categorically won).

All this while her indoors pregnant.

What joy.

Now I know your link wasn't meant to be taken literally & I like your posts, neither is this aimed as a snipe at your good self, just a wee tale of woe that can befall many of us concerning boundaries & neighbours.

Now where were we..

i was always told that you can tell who owns a fence between propertys as the one who owns it should have the fixings there side so good side faces out towards next door or onto the street.

I think Robert Frost was merely saying that people need to respect one another's boundaries, metaphorically. In my case, I have a 4 foot fence, due to the presence of dogs on my property. Good side out, I use the inside to grow grapes.

I kinda deduced that from the txt GA, & it is a lovely sentiment.

These neighbour/boundary things just set off something inside me & I thought I might vent (not at you) & share with the community.

I feel cleansed now.

Appologies folks.

Still like your posts, inside, outside or inside out.
