Fewer foreign registered lorries

I've been doing more driving for work recently and it seems to me there are fewer non-UK registered lorries on the roads than there were a few years ago.

Most of my driving is in the north east, where foreign lorries were probably always less common than they were closer to the channel ports.

But I still think their numbers have declined.

What do you think?

There's fewer on the M62, and that includes those registered abroad to UK operators. One company I know isn't exactly welcome amongst their UK counterparts.

You see them here every so often too, and I saw one the other week that had

'Dutch Flowers On Tour'

On the side.

I suddenly got this odd image of bunches of flowers on a world tour, appearing to adoring and screaming crowds of thousands in large arenas and stadiums, with someone announcing them all whilst loud music played in the background and light effects completed the scene.

One passed me today with a HL reg' plate. He sat back patiently while i negotiated some rough road then gave me loads of room as he passed, indicating left as he pulled in. I thanked him by putting my left hand up and he put on the hazards for a few seconds to thank me in return.

A foreign registered lorry did a very impressive left swerve in front of me a week or so ago after nearly missing the Darlington turn off on the A1(M).

I suppose lifting a couple of inside wheels but not turning over demonstrates skill rather than recklessness.

As a general point, I've seen no link between country of registration and standard of driving.

I know a couple of uk owner drivers who have stopped going abroad due to Calais..and the stress of fines and aggro..

Am told there's an increase in smaller stuff from the continent as they can drive until they fall asleep and not have to worry about tacho laws.
Our drivers see plenty of them wandering across lanes.

I've just seen a red lorry and a yellow lorry.

If you go to Bellshill near Glasgow, there is a DHL depot with a Royal Mail one next door. It'll keep you amused for hours!
