Top tip: treasury tags make an excellent substitute for cufflinks.

The other week, I was congratulating myself on my quickest ever commute, then realised why: my pannier lacked its usual weight penalty of shirt, trousers and underwear. D'oh!

I've had to fashion a pair of cufflinks out of paperclips on more than one occasion!

What a lifesaver this forum is. Bag all packed for the morning and ready to go...

... actually boxers and socks still in the wardrobe! Phew.

Boringly, I just cycle in my work clothes, although in summer I do swap shoes, as my steel toecap boots won't fit in the FCR's toeclips.

Many years ago I was in the Royal Navy and due for promotion.

All that was required was for my uniform to last another ten days and I would get my new Senior Rates rig. Up before the Commanding Officer and formal promotion.

Then two days before the trousers split right under the groin, and could not be repaired.

So....... used black gaffer tape to support the missing area - and it worked fine, until I marched away from the table and a loose piece of tape started epilating rather tender areas of my groin. Of course I then had to walk back to the mess to get changed, about 500 yards of trying not to walk bow legged and grimace too much!

Where we are wearing outdoor clothes is discouraged as it is seen as a cross - infection risk when dealing with patients, however you can wear an overcoat. Only cycling has an absolute ban on wearing the same clothes
