my laptap running vista has a problem...every time you access explorer to do something not on the hdd - either the usb hdd or over wireless network it (explore) crashes and re-stats..the error message is telling me its ffmpeg causing the problem..
ive googled ffmpeg it appears its a codec - in fact ive tried windows media player - that crashes...but vlc doesnt

how can i delete or stop ffmpeg? its not in any of the processes/programs etc

I would first try installing K-lite codec pack http://codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_standard.htm

That will install new codecs and fix any errors with old ones...
