Um, err, you were keeping up with her, weren't you? Thus were you not filtering at the same speed as her?

Also is that a red light that you jumped?

Yes I was following but I did know what she was doing was dodgy obviously (did you notice that she didn't look once...no I doubt it...that's not your interest on here is it.......You don't actually know a lot about the traffic there and the actual big black Volvo which passed me twice closely while giving the girl in front plenty of space when it passed here twice as well...I may have that earlier on video somewhere.Did you not notice I did actually stop at the traffic lights?...

What a surprise a comment from someone on here who's right up himself and has been commuting by bike for five minutes.

P.S There is no way I ride like that on that section normally...Perhaps I should dig out the last hundred videos of that section and stick them on UTube.

Your criticism's sometimes Magnatom are muppetish.

Hackers,

That is way out of line!

Let me explain. You criticise another cyclist for filtering too fast. You are following her at exactly the same speed and on the same patch of road. Which bit of this statement is wrong?

You say you don't ride like that normally, therefore you admit on that occasion you did ride inappropriately. Why did you do that? I suspect to capture the girl on video. Is this correct? I'm not perfect, but I certainly try not to endanger myself just to get a bit of footage, something that gets leveled at me often.

As for jumping the red light, you did. This is how it appears on the video: You crossed the line and were about to cross the junction when you realised that the cars were about to go so you stop. You try and justify this by saying that you weren't in a rush, and thus, wasn't it nice of you to stop.

As for you comment about being 'right up myself' and having only been riding for 5 minutes. I don't think comments like that deserve a response. They speak for themselves.

I have no problem at all with you disagreeing with my criticisms, and if you think they are muppetish, then that is you take. Please feel free to ignore my advice.

But take some advice from someone who may not have been cycling as long as you, but has certainly more experience in videoing and posting videos of cycling. If you can't take criticism, don't post videos. I can assure you the comments and abuse I receive on a daily basis are stupendously worse than any comments you have received on your video. My comments were purely observations, which two other posters have already agreed with.

I generally like you hackers. You have a different point of view which is always welcome, but I think you have to take a step back when you produce posts like that.

Off of that and more back onto the video...The big black Volvo (YY04EUK) 4x4 type vehicles at the set of lights at the part of the video which could have thrown a left turn as the girl was crossing the lights with me behind was the offending vehicle which had passed me closely (twice) while actually signalling right to pass the girl at Mile End (twice) ...I know this vehicle did this twice and have just checked an earlier bit of the video...so I was watching it and that Aspray van thingy.

Bullshit Magnatom you have no idea what I was doing at that light because you know nothing about the road.

IT WAS ALWAYS MY INTENTION TO STOP AT THOSE LIGHTS BECAUSE I KNOW THE JUNCTION ANYWAY.

This is way out of line...you are making assumptions which are wrong and that's what gets on my tits.

What irony? I've always been happy to accept criticism, and to give it. That's the nature of posting these videos after all...
Awww, c'mon, not even a small wry smile?

(did you notice that she didn't look once...no I doubt it...
I thought that when I first watched it but, on review, I think she did check when she pulled out round the truck about 30 seconds in.

And you really didn't stop at the lights.

Ok. So you post a video and don't like someone questioning your riding, that gets on you breasts? Notice I did say that this is how it appeared. Let me elaborate and do what everyone does, justifiably so, with my videos; analyse it.

At 54 seconds the lights go to amber. You are still a fair distance from the lights and have plenty of time to stop in the advanced cyclists zone. However, you continue an 'appear' to only start slowing as you reach the stop line. You do not stop until the junction itself, probably a good 15-20m beyond the stop line, i.e. you ran the red light. You decide to stop here. This may have been your origninal inention. If that is so, why? There is a ASL that you can quite happily stop, legally. Not only did I think you would continue, but the car turning thought you were going to continue, and you have to nod you head at him to show that you intend to stop, thus allowing him to turn.

As for not knowing the road, that has never stopped you commenting on my videos. I have no problem with that. I am sorry if I am annoying you Hackers, however, I think this is your problem and not mine. You obviously don't like critcism of your cycling, thus my previousl comments stand that perhaps you should not post videos in the future if you can't take criticism.

Why have you not argued against the other posters that agreed with me?

So you stop dead on the line at every set of lights then?

I didn't like that lorry thing and if I hadn't have been chasing well I wouldn't have been going so fast anyway.

I didn't stop dead on the line no but I did stop before the junction which was my intention according to magnatom to jump them even though I was riding fixed and didn't come to a dead stop, more of a controlled stop.

Come off it Hackers, what’s got into you today?

That line is just really naff, you are coming off like a total bike snob (Which I truly believe you're not).

Your vid showed you riding (as far as i could see) just like the rider in front, Therefore I agree with Mags comment (which by the way was not a criticism...it was a comment).

To then come back and mention extenuating circumstances "after" allowing people to form an initial opinion is daft, if there was more to it then tell us then, dont rip into us because we failed to read your mind.

By the way, Mags. Hackers DID stop at the light..on it over it doesn’t matter (there are many reasons for choosing the places we stop at) its the stopping that counts.

I have to disagree with this. Had a car done the same, it would be a clear case of running a red light. I can see no reason from a safety perspective, why you would need to overshoot the ASL and stop where he did in the video. Also from a legal perspective if you cross the line you are liable to be ticketed. Yes, being just half a meter over a line is not going to get you prosecuted, but imagine if a police officer was standing at that junction. Would he have ticketed hackers for going about 20m past the stop line? More importantly would Hackers have gone over that line had he spotted a poilice officer at the junction?

I don't think I am out of line to expect an apology for some of the comments Hackers made. I don't expect I will receive one though, which is a shame. They were way out of line.

Fair comment. Legally you would be seen as not stopping and I doubt any of us would choose that position if a copper was stood looking, with his pen and pad ready.

But, I did used to use this position as the asz was nearly always full of motorcycles and cars, something that I often could not see until it was too late. So it felt safer being out in plain sight

that said, I don’t often use the asz now, (unless I'm first to the lights) and prefer just hang back

I too generally hang back, but there has been the odd occasion where I too have aimed for an ASL and found it full. Usually with a car. I don't think there is a problem then taking a position just in front of the ASL, and I have done that.

I can't see any such issue in Hackers video. Anyway I think I'd better not make any more comments about the video.

Hi Taxing, without sounding too "self promoting"..check out the "essential guide " its pinned at the top of the Commuting forum.
Origamist offers a master class in filtering (section 8) and there are many other hints for riders just like you who are new to riding in heavy traffic

link
here if you have trouble finding it

Good luck

Cheers for reminding me of this, I read it a few months ago when I first started cycling, and then I was focusing on the more basic stuff. And after I'd read it, I forgot about it.
