Winter riding always has a lower average. Weather & road conditions and more clothing does slow one down..

Must admit this is the first time in winter so hoped this was the case, looking forward to Spring, cannot remember what it was like leaving in the morning in shorts and top

Well it's what I have found after a few years of winter riding.
Oh for the return of the warm sunny morning commute... it seems a long way off

Carppy weather in Mcr today - took the spike bike MTB. Roadie pulled away from me at lights - wasn't happy when I matched his speed. He then jumped a red light. Decided chasing was stupid as I'm full of a cold and had a high temperature last night - so eased back off.

Interesting you say that. I agree, however I read an article on British Cycling that stated it was faster to cycle in winter. I think their reasoning was that you wanted to pedal faster to counter the cold. I meant to post the article at the time as I disagreed with it, but I can't find it now.

I thought weather was OK today? (7am to 7:45 am).

And, no I wasn't the roadie.

Looking at my stats and thinking about my ride I have a couple of longer than a mile mild decents where I would in the summer do 30-33mph and now with the possible cross wind and wet roads I am feathering the brakes on the steep bits and barely peddaling so 20-22mph. Also once I hit my half way marker at a slow time I seem to back off for the rest of the ride. I would say I am 10-12% slower since mid October. The upside is I am not cream crackered come Friday afternoon, so might try and have a sprint home this Friday.

ugh....that was an anti climax. I was looking forward to a rare ride home in daylight...but was treated to drizzle, strong headwind and odd behaviour from traffic.

I have a theory that road users (despit some exceptions) enter the rat race with a clear understanding that some type of rule system exists. We all seem to be heading in the same direction (ie ...work) and are all keen to get there with little distraction or incident .We are all aware that plenty of other people wish to do the same...so its gonna be busy and there are gonna be bikes...and stuff

But during the middle of the day, its a complete mess. Drivers seem to have little awareness (and no cycle awareness), are driving about far less cautiously and ...of course something I forgot to realise...are allowed to use the bus lanes.

This is the worse bit about driving in town during the middle of the day. especially when a driver only realises they can use the bus lane as you approach their nearside rear bumper.....

Yeah! got to work at 8:30, the boss sent us home at 10:30- after the customary end-of-year breakfast in the canteen.

Got in at lunchtime after going the long way home- in short sleeves and without gloves.

Haven't had the heating on for two days and it's still 17-18 inside.

Forgot to note the mileage but it's some way down on the last couple of years, below 5000 miles though.
