- and that is what is so good about the online sites such as Ribble (I have 2), Rose, Canyon etc. - the capacity to configure, to specify exactly what you want on the bike. Of course as has been pointed out many times before, you do need to know what you are doing, in terms of frame size etc etc etc. Otherwise your LBS is the place for you.

New bikes do come with pedals. Pedals are a legal requirement, as are reflectors and a bell. £1500 is less than mid range in terms of bike prices - regardless of what you might think.
I've bought two new bikes in the past two months. One for my mrs and one for me on the C2W. Both retailing at a grand and neither came with pedals. I had to pay extra for them. Neither had a bell either. Should I be pointing this out to my LBS (who I bought from).

Any item sold under the Sale of Goods Act requires that it must be 'fit for purpose' - and it could be reasonably argued that a bicycle supplied without pedals is not fit for purpose, as it can't be ridden. A lot of bikes still come with toe cages/straps anyway, and some shops get round the issue by supplying a cheap set of plastic flats, which most people will never use anyway.

The bell is currently a legal requirement - despite being a bit pointless.

The law concerning sale of bikes requires all sorts of reflectors - red, white, backward forward sideways. Bell. Reflectors on pedals if supplied with the bike. (Has ANYONE got reflectors on their clip in road pedals?). But I don't think it is a legal requirement to sell a bike fitted with pedals. It all gets ludicrously complicated and confusing - you can take them all off anyway (but you will need to put some of them back on again if you ride your bike at night). Isn't there also some get out clause about bikes supplied for competition?
