Finally give up. Advice on a second hand bike

Hi all after 12 months of aggro with my Carrera Kraken finally given up looking for a half decent mtb suitable for trails and road work,as my budget wil not stretch to a new bike looking at 2nd hand hardtails any ideas? thanks for any advice. although will say aint fussed about hydraulic brakes or fancy bells and whistles but looking for something solid and reliable
