Finally got some Bibshorts...

Just took the plunge and got myself some bibshorts
I've avoided them so far but after a few rides in them I think I'm converted. The first thing is that no one laughed, well not that I saw. They did feel odd at first, I guess I missed the flapping of the baggy shorts. I've got a pair of dhb Aeron, and so far so good.

I guess the next question is what to do when it gets colder. I guess it's invest in a pair of bib tights, or do you go for unpadded tights on top?

You've got a few options, two of which you've outlined. You can also use leg warmers. When it's really cold, I go for leg-warmers, bib-shorts and tights over the top.

Good choice, I bought some of those shorts earlier this year.
For cooler days I wear just some endura knee sections with the shorts.
For real cold I bought some of the dhb padded tights & use the knee sections underneath.

Pretty much what i do , last year i even used summer jerseys as a cheap base layer with armwarmers under long sleeve jerseys for commuting .

If it is chilly, I either wear shorts with leg warmers or 3/4 length bibshorts. If it is cold I would wear full tights. If it is bitter, I sometimes wear bibshorts under tights for extra insulation, though that can feel odd if the tights have padding as well. Another alternative - something akin to Ron Hill bikesters over bibshorts.

Shorts can be very chilly round the genital area when it gets really cold. You will soon decide that you want a bit more protection!
