It snowed here this afternoon and now the temperatures have dropped and the melting / melted snow has formed black ice.

The council ran out of grit for all but 'essential' roads weeks ago so the roads around here are lethal.

The wife has just returned from a trip to book club. She got as far as 1.5 miles from the house, cars were going sidewards down steep hills, so she came home, the long way. She was 45 mins door to door!

Well, Folks, I got caught out on the wrong bike, one day last week. Ordinarily, I laugh about you people who refuse to try studded tyres, and then either don't ride, or bust your butts on the ice/snow. Well, today the weather was clear, and I headed into work on the good bike, with it's slick tyres, instead of my "foul-weather" bike with the studded tyres. An hour before quitting time, it started snow-balling...not snowing...but HUGE clusters of flakes, like snowballs! A half dozen land on you, and you're soaked! LOL Well, I got to ride home on the slick tyres. It was a "white-knuckle" ride, but I made it home safely, with only 1 minor rear wheel skid. I sure missed the security of the studs!

Just cleaned 2 bikes.....argh...the Fixed was a filthy mess from today's wet salty rides, the MTB from Monday's damp, soggy wet mucky ride back home off road..... the chain sounded like sand paper.....hosed that off.........., then lubed......

I have soooo gotta take better care of Chitty, poor old girl hasnt seen a wet sponge since about last september when I gave her a clean out of pure guilt after having my head turned by a younger, newer model.

Is this the mid Lothian question?

Time to move south to wamer weathers .

Where the whole place grinds to a halt if two snow flakes are sighted... ;)

Ar$e was twitching like a rabbits nose all the way home tonight.Hybrid not fun in snow but at least it stayed up-right and beat one mega grid-lock traffic jam
Took me just a bit longer to get home with carefull braking and steering.Amazed how the snow had compacted to ice so quickly.
