It was a while ago that l acquired a pearlescent white "COPPI" Fiorelli bike. I have spent some time and a bit of cash renovating it. However to my shame l hadn't ridden it any distance until yesterday. Too obsessed with riding the Faggin !!
Now l can report that l have been missing out on a marvellous bike, it is fast as hell and just as unforgiving.
It has a small frame 54cm c/c and a short wheelbase 97cm with a10cm head tube.
With my hands on the hoods my chin is just in front of the Cinelli 64-40 bars so the front wheel is literally "in ur face". Lots of Campagnolo stuff i.e. 175mm Record cranks 53-39 chainrings; Triomphe front and rear derailleurs and shifters. Shimano 105 front / rear and aero leavers.
Phew l feel better now l've got that off my chest.....l definitely won't abandon the Faggin but for serious thrills bring on the Fiorelli Coppi ^_^

Bikes may be more advanced and efficient now, but they don't look anywhere near as good as they used to.

Although I'm a recumbent man now I have a hankering after a custom painted steel frame retro machine.
It isn't too late, half the fun is looking and researching and eventually if you are lucky finding a beautiful piece of cycling history/development. They are still out there to be discovered. On the other hand l was in my LBS the other day (in a tiny French village) when l saw a truly beautiful modern race bike. The owner explained that it was made from titanium and carbon fibre and it was for sale for 6500€ . I explained in my best French that for 100th of that price l could find a bike that would give me just as much pleasure.....he wasn't convinced

What I would like is something like this -

It ticks all the boxes, beautiful paint job, cheap to buy and nicely retro looking but with a modern headset and disc brake mounts. Old fashioned up to the minute, if you like.
