First 100 mile ride

Both have their advantages but on balance I do prefer the barely inhabited wilderness, empty roads and occasional bobcat! The roads in my pics aren't too bad but the potholes in some have to be seen to be believed. Probably a quarter of the Island's roads are not paved either and the local red soil is more like soft pink sand - unrideable!

Be ok on a MTB would it? Looks fun!

After a dry spell it turns like fine flour. I've tried it on 23mm tyres but a well-shod MTB should plough through it ok. There's also a couple of hundred miles of abandoned railway line on the Island. That's got a good compacted surface and you can spin for miles and not see a soul!

I saw this poster yesterday and knew Prince Edward Island rang a bell for some reason.

I've been rumbled! My wife's former married name was Ryan so it's pretty darn close!

He does depict the range of wildlife quite accurately, as in no bear or moose on the island but most species of whale in the waters offshore.

I guess if you don't have moose, you don't have jellied moose lips which I gather are Canadian delicacy. Along with Clamato juice.

Yes, well done PV - dunno, must have been on holiday when you were trundling around the island doing your century otherwise I feel sure I would have chipped in with a hopelessly inappropriate comment.

Thanks 3BM, fear not, it was just a quick circuit of the eastern portion of the island and easily missed!

I might get my first ride of 2010 in soon if the weather carries on improving. The big problem is the roads which are appalling. The sweepers and pothole menders won't get cracking while there is still the likelihood of one more snowstorm before Spring truly arrives. One pothole near here is so big it reputedly swallowed a Lincoln Continental!

Great write up and pics . Roads look very nice . I'm looking to do my 1st 100 miles this year . After taking up cycling a cpl years ago at 45 I've did a lot of 50 miles runs a col 60's and a 80 fully loaded with camping gear on my mountain bike . This year I've got a new bike . A 2010 spez tricross sport . And hoping to manage my 1st 100 miler . But so far this year I seem to be struggling to build up my fitness done a cpl 45 mile and a 55 mile but kinda been struggling near the end where last year I was Fairley fresh at the end . Mabey I was expecting to much of a change ( speed / ease of miles ) with new bike . But I'll keep on and hopefully when the nicer weather comes (if ) I will hit the magic ton
