Despite the insanely high percentage of idiot drivers/pedestrians, today my bike comp rolled over to the first 1000 miles commuting a 14 mile round trip into Manchester city centre since 22nd June.

A drop in the ocean for some, but a bit of a milestone for me, so just wanted to say a huge thanks to all on CC for the wisdom, insights and experience which has made my journey so far much more enjoyable and most of all, SAFER. Knowing what to expect is half the battle (pun intended).

Saving an hour a day, but still haven't saved any dosh. It's all gone (and more) to CRC and Wiggle for kit and upgrades to the bike! Nothing like drooling over bike porn...

Not especially relishing the prospect of winter, either...

Well done.

My guess is that you haven't even saved an hour a day as that has been spent on here and on CRC, Wiggle etc.

Congratulations and well done. I am about 500 miles behind you on the commuting front and like yourself have found the site very useful

congrats Baz. And don't worry about winter commuting. By the sound of things, you have all the gear you need....

Well done :-)

I have just gone over the 200 mile point after commuting by bike for 3 weeks (3-4 days a week at least), I do 17 miles return. Really enjoying it I have to say, and am very pleased I've managed to keep doing it (i haven't really cycled properly for about 14 years now), it is great fun flying past all the trafffic every morning and evening.

I do drive a couple of days each week, but it makes it all the more special when I do ride in :-)

Never driven the car to work, but had to get the bus one day last week for an evening JBO (jolly boys outing) and I hated every minute of it (the bus journey that is). Think I'd sooner walk than go back to that! I missed the bike so much I thought about going out when I got in - at 11:30pm (didn't 'coz I wanted to fall into bed more!). Need my daily fix now, or I'm not a nice person...

...and thanks to all for the encouragement!
