I came down Stoner Hill this afternoon, into Petersfield. This is a 2 mile descent with one hairpin and several more gentle bends, so I'm up to 40mph in some sections. A car behind seemed a bit reluctant to overtake but eventually did as I was nearing the bottom of the hill, straight into the path of an oncoming vehicle who braked hard and flashed headlights. WVM (for it was he) was about 2-3 cars back decided I was to blame for holding him up for what would have amounted to 15 seconds at best, passed me uncomfortably close and yelled something that probably wasn't "have a nice afternoon and enjoy the rest of the ride" through the lowered passenger window as he went by. I was hoping that he might be stuck in the long line of traffic waiting for the level crossing as I came into town so that I could return the compliment, but alas he must have taken a different route.

I wouldn't even bother retaliating. I always enjoy, mixed with a fair amount of smugness, cycling past them as they get caught at the lights. Probably more important to keep yourself safe, and give guys like that a wide berth.

I haven't ridden for nearly 3 months due to injury. Things like this put me off getting back cycling again. One thing i haven't missed in those 3 months off are the total self-gratification artists like the one in the OP's post!

I don't know much about Cinco de Mayo
I also like to smile and wave. At the very least it's confusing for them.

Don't react, you may see them again and who knows how morons like this will react in the future.
That's a really good point. In the heat of the moment the last thing that enters your mind is the fact that you will no doubt see them again, but when you think about it ,there most probably stuck in a routine drive or commute just like the cyclist and very likely to pass you the next day. Not a nice thought having a driver passing you every day who may have a grudge against you.
