Was forced to get the bus for the first time in years today. God I hope it's the last time.

A trip that normally takes 40 minutes (Max) on the bike took two busses, an hour and a half, and cost me £5.00.

All to sit in foetid discomfort listning to some tinny "music" from the chav crammed in next to me whilst inhaling god only knows how many flavours of stale sweat.

It's the cash that got to me though, I could do the same journey in the car fr less, in comfort and without the odour. Public transport outside big cities really is a non starter for anyone.

You think it's any better in the big cities ?

But you have my sympathy. Time is the great healer. The memories will fade.

The human mind/body combination is renowned for its powers of self preservation.

You will come through this experience as a stronger being.

But on another subject

If I take the bus to work, it's two of them, OK nice new swanky stage coach ones as the 'money grabber' operators don't cover it - takes an hour to do 6 miles - I cover a 'long' 11 mile route to work in about 35/40 mins on the bike.....

I still use buses between sites though (I avoid as much as possible), as I have no drying facilities at other sites - OK if dry, but if hissing down, I ride to my office then jump on the bus.... and then I end up getting the 'bargain' bucket busses... grim..........

Not having used buses for a while, I once got a First two person daysaver for £7 for me and a friend (my sister had a weekly ticket) as we were going to Heaton Park so we wouldn't need the more expensive System One daysaver...or so I thought. It turned out Arriva had taken over the route in the evenings, so our daysavers were invalid for the journey back and we had to pay an extra £2 each!

My point regarding cities was, that conceivably inside London (for eg) you could do without a car at all. Without the incidental costs of ownership (purchase/tax/insurance etc) the price of pubic[sic] transport is almost acceptable.

However, for people living in more remote locations, a car is virtually essential (esp. if you have small children). Given this I'm not surprised at the number of cars on the road. Cheaper, Quicker, more comfortable and a damn sight less odourous.

Still prefer the bike though :bravo:

In seriousness my nephew started an apprenticeship with a company 12 miles away....he had to get a bus at 6.15am to be at work in time for a 8.30am start due to lack of buses. And got back home at 7pm with a 4.30pm finish...:bravo:

Here it's £3.50 for a return from UNI to town which takes about 40 minutes, excluding waiting for the damn thing...or a 15/30 minute cycle depending on ability.

I'm still boycotting London buses since The Man got rid of the Routemaster. Take that, The Man!
:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I buy an annual bus pass :biggrin: Half hour home to work, if all is well. Sometimes I cycle instead. :smile:
