Dellzeqq explained it well in another post http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/what-is-meant-by-half-wheeling.85455/

it's competitive cycling on a club run. What happens is that the person on the right hand side gets slightly ahead, and the person on the left hand side feels obliged to up the speed a little bit. Before you know it the entire club is rushing forward and then the slower riders get dropped. It's really what a club is not about.

And when other riders sprint for hills and then do not wait for slower riders.

My ride was cut short today as the legs were not there so i bailed when i could leave for home .

Not entirely correct, half wheeling in any situation is bad form, unnecessary and downright rude.

Run this morning went well. Weather was glorious, albeit a little chilly at times. We headed to the coast and did 42ish miles at just over 16mph, so my longest and fastest run by quite a margin.

Run was cut short as the team captain's chain snapped in two going round a roundabout. After some to-ing and fro-ing, we made it to Halfords who saved the day and allowed us to return home. Route was fairly flat, with 2 or 3 monster hills - had to get off and walk twice. Felt comfortable on the flats though, even when we were pushing it a bit.

Looking forward to next Sunday!

Nice going Redcar :bravo:

Oh, and make sure if you need to repair a puncture, pump up the inner tube when it's in the tyre/rim.

I'm still recovering from illness and the legs aren't there just yet so I'm riding alone for now, I tend to ride alone on a lot of rides anyway, my pace has dropped of a bit as the years have rolled past and my pace is between groups these days, if I'm going well I'll ride with the intermediate group for all or part of the ride, the intermediate group used to be my regular ride.

That is the mistake I have been making all this time. I too never really understood the term.

I'm glad that you had a good time.
Always carry tools and spares with you. Forget what other people may or may not be carrying - you should be self-reliant. (That means knowing how to do common repairs too!)

That includes carrying a chain tool and knowing how to use it!
