Since today is my last commuting day for eleven days I decided on trying a new route home which took me outside the boundaries of Swindon and on to country roads, just over fourteen miles, I live two miles from work.
Checked the route with Google Streetview, seemed to be straight forward, a little bit of a climb but nothing serious.
It didn't start well, the country lane out of Swindon turned out to be a bit of a nightmare due to laying of new drainage pipes turning the road into a potholed gravel filled experience, with lots of large stones to try and catch me out.
Got through that section, the road returned to normal, just as I come to the bridge across the M4 I realise it has steps most of the way up, so off the bike and lug it up the steps.
On the other side of the bridge, no road just a field, so I traipse across the field to the road and set off again.
All is good now, typical country lanes and country smells, thinking about the small climb that is coming up.
Unfortunately, Google Streetview did not do the climb any justice, it was long winding road up a steep hill, in the lowest gear possible cursing Streetview. No chance I am going to stop, too stubborn and finally reach the top. The rest of the country ride was excellent, the climb I thought would be hard was easier than anticipated and much easier than the previous one.
