Morning All,
I just wanted to share the fact I have completed my first commute to work today (though need to cycle home) :bicycle:

Really enjoyed it apart from a hill near Lovell Park which nearly had me at standstill, it went a lot quicker than I imagined 5.2 miles in 30 mins though I had to stop a couple of times to sort me flipping lights out though a tiny technicality which I am sure most have on a test drive.

I was going to alternate days when doing it, right now I feel like cycling home and back again

Well done! Keep at it, it's incredibly rewarding. Don't push things too fast though, listen to your body. May be have a rest day midweek to let your muscles catch up.

I've been vehicle-less since October and it's great.

Congrats  I intended to do 2 days a week to start with . . by week 2 I was doing it every day. Sounds like you may be the same!

Better to be going slowly due to a hill than due to being stuck in traffic

Thanks Peeps

I did have one of "those" moments on the journey, when I was struggling up the last hill I looked up over St. James hospital (and no didnt think about diverting there) and the sky was a bright red, a wonderful picture. I used to see them on the bus and think wow, but when on a bike it seemed a little better this time.

Must be Valentines day making me soppy

Well done Leodis.

If you can get through the last bits of winter, Spring and Summer will be much nicer.

Excellent stuff.
Before you long you will be bombing along and even surprising yourself with how much strength you have in the old legs.

Now you just need to start spending all that saved bus money on bike bits.
its the law i'm afraid.

Hang you head in shame sir !

Seriously though, sights like that red sky make it all the more worthwhile. Stick at it and you'll soon find yourself looking for "scenic" routes, to extend your miles.

Hey, well done! don't worry about the hill: I used to dismount and push the bike on my hilly bit, after a week I just found myself not needing to. Also you will find that you get to work earlier and earlier the more you commute by bike.

Update return leg:-

About a 400ft climb and it took me 5hrs 37mins on 5.5 miles, I did have to get off and push after a drawn out 2 mile road which sneaks up (Meanwood road) and maybe took a poor choice of route through Leeds centre BUT I get my first skin :wahhey:

Then got skinned by a roadie with Lycra... grr

Will see how I am later about riding in tomorrow once I stop sweating.
