Panther is right. It was only 4 months ago I was in your shoes. I was 17.5 stone, 5 miles nearly resulted in hospitalisation!

Just over 1000 miles later I'm 15st 8 (and dropping) and I don't warm up until 5 miles! My fave 24 mile route is my 'quicky'. It takes no time at all.

Welcome to the commuter club. As others have said, you have chosen the right time to start commuting. It will only get better for you as it did for us.

Rolling down the hills with the bike.
Bravo and well done. Now i should really start communting to uni by bike though its 14 miles im still tempted to do it. Your body will build up the muscle very fast the more you do it. Unless you have a build up of lactic acid then its HOT SHOWERS! lol

Thanks, feeling quite knackered today and got to cycle uphill home. Might take tomorrow off and return Friday.

Dont push it, listen to your body.

Most of us started off doing a few days a week and building up, it takes a while before you can do 5 days a week 52 weeks a year.

Thanks Beebo, just so keen to lose the weight and get out there on the bike.

Your body will need the rest days in order to recoup, its in that time that muscles rebuild stronger and changes occur to your metabolism  its easy to over do it and loose the benefits.

It's hard though I know, I promised myself a rest day today, even though I had new tyres, saddle and brake pads to test! I'm climbing the walls! Tomorrow morning I'll be out tho

Well I found a cracking way home yesterday. I used a off road cycle path (well part of it) which avoided the main madness road (Meanwood Road) and it was nice quite and goes up the large hill sooner so less incline but in stages. Got a chance to test my lights out on a totally dark path and really enjoyed it. It took me a little longer though part of that was I had co2'd my tyres last week and the CO2 had evaporated so quick jump off and another burst and on my way.

I am really thankful for all the advice you guys have helped me with
