First dark commute

I've not done a night commute yet this year since the clocks changed but I've done a few 10-11pm'ish rides and apart from neds its great, people give you plenty of room and nobody complains about you not being in the cycle lane they can't see or being in the primary. Only thing I did realise was I needed a new front light, for dark lanes, ayup's would of been grand but I couldn't afford that just now so I setttled for a BSpoke 1/2 watt and i've been very happy.

Do you find the 1/2 watt up to the job? because there's a 1 watt version available (or becoming available, I don't know which).

They seem reasonably priced.

I found the BSpoke 1/2 watt fine, I think because its heavily magnified. I've been able to keep my speed up on several long wooded lanes. It is also backed up by a Cateye 410 helmet light however. If there was a 1 watt available for a similar price I would have went for that.

BTW at the same time I bought it I was considering a Nightrider Ultrafazer Max 1 watt, however for the same price I was getting a front and rear BSpoke and the Ultrafazer had no side spill.

Great, thanks for that. Might go for the 1 watt.

Getting a bit worried about the dark and cold - As a Driver I have set off a few times where the inside of the car is a bit steamed up and thus visibilty isn't 100%.
Not saying I would hit someone but I have seen people driving whilst peering through "portholes"

Oh yes - watch out for 'port holes'... you need to be switched on - you'll spot them...no amount of light will help.....

Hands on brakes, keep covered, get used to locking up and avoiding a side swipe !!!

That's why im lit up like a christmas tree.

Me too, unfortunately most of my commute is residential so come about mid November I disappear next to the 10,000 watt Xmas displays on every other house. Bah Humbug.

Maybe we can get you a little flashing Christmas tree to attach to your helmet !
