Yes folks, strange day to do it, but I'm working tomorrow (do 1 every 2 months) and thought it the best day to try out the new commute.
The roads should be quiet, it's around 15 miles each way, but I've never ridden the route before eek, gonna give myself 2 hours just to be safe.
I don't start till 11am, so plenty of time to get there, just hope I don't get lost, but have the trusty iPhone, just in case !!!

Try using a course creator site to plot the journey if you're not sure, it may throw up a route you've not thought of!

Depends how much riding you do but I'd say 15 miles in 2 hours should be absolutely fine- you can then work on your timings once you've done it a bit. (Mine's 12 miles which I cover in 45-50 mins, then a shower and at the desk within the hour)

Let us know tomorrow how you got on- good luck!

15 mile commute to a Sunday shift on the last lovely sunny day of Spring and giving yourself plenty of time. Should have been glorious. How was it?

Well it was pretty good. But the journey was very hilly around 1,200ft ascent on the way in, very tough.
Not sure whether I would be able to do this regular, but maybe it'll get easier with time.
One thing was my neck was absolutely killing me, I haven't ridden a road bike for ages and it was so painful, any suggestions to ease this?
On a plus side my first clipless ride went well without any 'moments'

Well done on achieving it though, you'll be surprised how soon it becomes more fun than tough. (although 1200 ft of climbing is a good effort over that distance)

Can't help with the neck- I'm on a flat bar hybrid built for comfort not for speed:laugh:

Well done - the route will get easier with time. I'd not suggest 5 days a week yet though.

It's West Yorkshire anyway, there aren't any flat bits round here ^_^

I got this as well...and then again when I changed my motorcycle to a more sporty shape.

it'll sort itself out as soon as your neck muscles get used to it (like after two rides...not long).

Sorry I missed your original post I wanted to say be careful on Sunday with bus lanes as they are "open season" at the weekend and drivers appear from all directions (not sure you ride many main roads though). If you really think you'll struggle, then consider a a cheap 50cc scooter for the "off days". they are limited to 30mph but you don't need a licence (if you are the right age).
