Hello

I have decided that it's time that I take the plunge and buy a road bike.

At the moment I have a Trek hard-tail mountain bike that I have put smooth (hybrid) tyres on, I use this for commuting which is fine but I've also been doing 50/70 mile rides at the weekends which isn't so fine!

So I am going to keep the Trek as a commuter and mountain bike, changing the tyres to suit and I am looking to buy a road bike for the long rides at the weekend. I'm also planning on doing some 3 to 4 (possibly more) day rides too.

My budget is around
£500, which I know people might scoff at a little but I simply can't afford anything more...I've been keeping my eye out on Gumtree for second hand bikes but to no avail...but I'm sure I'll notice the difference in riding comparing my £300 mountain bike to a £500 road bike though!

I have been looking around on the internet for some time and saw:

Norco Valence A4 2013

It seems to tick all my boxes; built for long rides/endurance, fast, has holes to attach panniers and is £500 new.

Does anyone have any experience with this bike? I did a forum search but the results weren't really relevant. Or can anyone suggest a different bike?

Of course I am going to test ride anything before buying, unfortunately my employers have finished the cycle to work scheme for this year, otherwise I could up my budget a bit.

Anyway thanks for any suggestions.

For that money I would buy the Triban 5 (£500) (I had one until it was stolen) or the Triban 5A (£430) which I now have.

Both have carbon forks and both have the full Sora group set. A really nice bike imo.

Good luck whatever choice you make
