Lovely sunny evening, slight headwind and bang down I went. Every cyclists nightmare, diesel on the road ;)

Luckily I got away with just a cut up knee, bruised hip and rip in shorts (luckily my old pair). Everything else and bike fine.

Just goes to show when you are least expecting it anything can happen.

Thanks, it was suprise more than anything else. It is normally a busy junction however I had been doing a bit of overtime and did not leave until 6:30 so fortunately there was nothing else on the road.

Hope you heal up quick, FFFF. This was just diesel on the tarmac, right? not on a manhole cover or anything?

Nasty stuff by the sounds of it.

No just diesel on tarmac but right across the road so no chance to avoid it. It was even chuffing slippery under foot as I tried to stand back up.

I just had a thought...maybe you need to report it. Some other cyclist might come a cropper on it next.

Nasty, glad it wasn't more serious. The last time I came off, winter 2006 hit black ice what amazed me was how fast you go down no wobble or anything. So fast I couldn't react which was good as no injury whatsoever. Never had the pleasure of diesel I'm glad to say.

back flat or nearly flat as I accelerated away onto the large Green Man roundabout this evening, damn near lost the back as it slid away

a not so safe safety pin

been off violently twice in the last four months, ione a front flat as I turned left at speed and one clipped curb, both head overs with remarkably few side effects

anything you walk away from init

I have had a few close shaves this week. Tuesday nearly taken out by what appeared to be half a tree that was not secured to a lorry which bounced out into the road. Last night just about to overtake another bike when the bloke in front lapsed concentration veared onto the grass bank and then flew across the road as he somehow managed to stay on, missed him by a matter of inches.

Makes the week a bit more memorable than most.

Two in four - that's bad. As a matter of interest, were you helmeted & did you bang your head either time? As a died in the wool non helmet wearer, I have a theory that peeps who come off without helmets just instinctively avoid hitting their heads - having come off twice at high speed, I've ripped my knees, elbows, forearms, and bashed my hips and shoulders, but my head? Not a scratch. Not a bump.

Aye, the diesel's a bugger. There's a roundabout on my way to work with a garage close-by that seems to collect more than its fair share of small spills. I've nearly come a cropper twice - even though the second time I was on alert and taking it easy.

Hope you recover soon.
