Dublin, many moons ago, first weekend sneak away with the girls. Couldn't tell the boyfriend at the time so diverted the house phone to my mobile. Would have pulled it off too if it wasn't for that pesky airport tannoy

Fairly late starters to flying, our first was when we were im our early 40s. Married young plus kids meant we always holiday'd in the UK.
So, first flight to Heraklion, Crete for our 25th wedding anniverasry Took ages to cajole the wife into flying...never been able to stop her since.

My first flight was from UK to Singapore when I was about 9 months old so I don't remember much about it. My next flight was 3 years later, coming home. I can just about remember there being a big screen with a film on it but cannot remember what the film was about. I had a colouring book and crayons to keep me occupied I am told.

DanAir charter flight in November 1971. Gatwick Athens. BAC-111. Three goes he had at putting it down in a cross wind snow squall at night. The third go broke the plane. I remember the lockers all popping open and stuff raining down on us kids. And the Aged P (ex WWII para by then in his fifties) looking like a ghost and swearing/sweating profusely.

I didn't fly again for 20 years.

Never had my feet off the ground and unlikely too do so. An Eustachian tube problem would blow an ear drum even in a pressurized cabin.

Nice Côte d'Azur airport in 2004, arrived from a cold Bristol into what felt like the open door of a large oven set to gas mark 5. It was also Bastille day which means French people setting off fireworks from every bit of free space. This is also the place where my credit card details were skimmed twice.

Six years ago we flew to Dublin with Aer Fungus. I was very nervous and just as bad coming back a few days later. However that hasn't put me off, we have flown every year since apart from this year. Still don't like it but tolerate it to go to terrific places to relax and enjoy.

My first flight was from Gatwick to Moscow on a school trip to Moscow and Leningrad when I was 17. In the days before cheap flights we had taken an overnight boat to Liverpool, train to Euston, tube to Victoria and another train to Gatwick.
I can still remember the thrill when we were rattling along the runway prior to take off.
Funnily I have never been on a flight with my parents

Wick to Kirkwall with BEA in a Vickers Viscount.
Wick airport passenger lounge still had the wicker basket chairs in that time, just like in the films!
I remember on a later visit to Wick airport a friend arrived by car to to fly with Loganair to somewhere or other. As the 'plane was taxiing along the runway it was realised that he had gone off with the car keys in his pocket, but they managed to recall the aircraft before lift off and get it to return to the boarding area where the keys were handed over to his relieved father.
