I said to my wee auntie a few months ago:
all this cycling is no doubt doing me good, but I wonder how one is supposed to fit one's helmet over one's winter hat? I can hardly turn my head with all this headgear on!
She replies:
have you not seen Aldi's cycling hats? That's what you are supposed to wear under your helmet!
Me:
really? I'll look into it, are you sure it keeps your head warm?
.... Forgot all about it.
It's my birthday: my auntie: here's a wee present for you hen!
Me: lovely, I'll open it when I get home (it's a very small, soft, light parcel) ... could it be a hankie?
NO, it's a lightweight black shiny material thinghmi, OH MY, it's a LYCRA cycling hat

You mean a skull cap. They're the biz, mate. I think you should thank your auntie, then ask her to buy me one, too!

Use my Aldi one all the time in winter (don't forget to pull it down over the ears. I have a lightweight one I use in the warmer weather that soaks up all the sweat !

I find that skull caps are no good for keeping ears warm. Even a wool beenie doesn't quite do the job. I need one of those hippy/organic wooly efforts with dangly string with bobbles on the end.

I wear a cotton cycling cap under my helmet. If it's cold then I let the strap out a bit and put a buff around the cap and over my ears which stay toasty.
For winter commuting I wear a Lowe Alpine mountain cap. Ears stay warm as it's got enough earflap to cover them. If really cold I add the buff which can be taken off as I heat up.
