Well after the big 40 giving up smoking, swapping back after many years from a Mountain bike to a road bike and making a few lifestyle changes. I,m currently half way on my target weight goal (from 105kg down to 75kg) today i did my first 100km ride and surprised myself as didn,t really set out with a distance in mind. I felt good so just kept going.
On a reasonably hilly route too 1414ft of climbing 3 counties later and an average speed of 18.4mph, have hugely surprised myself this fitness lark must be working ^_^.
An you know what i enjoyed every minute of it perhaps now i can join my local cycling club and not look a total tit an have everyone waiting for captain slow.
This cycling lark is rather addictive :bicycle::hyper:.

Congratulations that's a really inspiring story and something to aim for myself, though as others have said that is fast, faster than I dare to hope to be at an average speed! Well done! :highfive:

60 miles at 18.5 mph!!!

That's proper club rider speeds. I'm envious, I manage about 16 mph over that sort of distance / altitude.

Just to be sure, and i dont want to pop any bubbles, you're not mixing your metrics here are you. 100k and 18Mph, if its 18Kph, that's still a great speed. But 18.5 MPH puts you in the faster group at most club rides

Hi thanks all for the amazing response
According to my computer i did 100.87 km at an average speed of 29.59kph had to double check my route via Google maps to make sure it was reading accurately and it came up with an error of .5 km in distance so am guessing it must be about right.
Mind you i think i put my average speed up over the last 20 km where i was being chased by a tailwind big black rain clouds and longish flat straight roads where i was up around 35-37kph with my chin nearly on the stem.
When i got home i had serious jelly legs , had to sit down for 10 mins before i could summon the strength to stand up let alone get my key in the door and push the bike indoors !

Why is it in your first post you mix mph an kms, now it's all kms, are you European and that's really all you know (not being cheeky just asking)
