First mountain bike

Hi
Looking for my first mountain bike. Will be used for forest trails and also towing the children around to the shops etc.
I don’t have a huge budget somewhere between £400 to £450 and I’m 5”5 so probably a small frame
Just wondering what’s out there - I’ve been looking at the trek marlin 6 (slightly above budget) but not adverse to second hand.
if anyone has anything that may scratch the itch it would be good to chat.

I got this Lapierre AM for around that money , Ultimate Sports we’re selling them off , possibly Cycle Republic are same price

I bought this 2009 Giant Trace Advanced carbon for my son last year for £375, really high spec bike with Shimano XT groupset for peanuts, if you don’t mind unfashionable 26” wheels you can buy a huge amount of bike for next to nothing second hand.

@Easytigers I’d be keen to know what you / he thinks of it. Did you order direct from the website and how tall is he? At my height the trek website suggests both a small and medium would fit 🤔

I bought my first Mtb at the end of last year. A Giant Fathom 29 with a 1x11 drivetrain. I have ridden it all winter and it has been excellent.
A very good price and a great bike.

Ordered from Leisure Lakes Bikes and hoping to pick it up in the next few days. We ordered a medium :-)

I'm amazed that Leisure Lakes Bikes have so much stock! Out of interest how tall is your son to have the medium?
