Had my first off today. Done about 10000 miles without one so overdue I guess. Totally my own fault, had a lovely long ride into work via Hathersage and Ladybower, then it started raining. Descended to Sheffield and towards work. Was trundling into City Centre taking care and I had to cross tram tracks. Thought I had the angle of attack correct, but no, front wheel went straight from under me and I was on the deck, maybe at 15 mph. Just grazes and a bent mech hangar. Got that straight enough to ride and am awaiting a replacement which I ordered ( 2of ) about 10 days ago. No LBS carries them so I had ordered a couple to have as spares, just as well! Was told 2 weeks wait if ordered in by LBS.

Next time I'm getting off and walking across the tram tracks, wheel didn't get stuck, just lost traction on the greasy track. First time I've encountered them as I usually come into the City a different route.

You live and learn!

Was like Pinotti in the TT today but on the RHS, same conditions of road drying etc. More care needed! 1 minute before I made mental note, be careful with these tram tracks, hit them at 90 degrees etc. Was nice that a few people asked if I was ok,

Luckily when I touch Sheffield on the bike, I don't hit any of the same roads as the tram. Driven out on Prince of Wales Road towards Graves Park / Norton though and felt the traction 'twitch' a bit. I can imagine its easy to lose concentration and then lose 'it'
I seem to remember something from years ago about they chose the wrong guage or something and ended up with the worst choice as regards cyclists...

I cross train tracks on my commute; upright, freewheeling and cross them at close to 90 degrees as possible. Glad you're ok
