Why can't there be an 'ignore' button in real life? That would be perfect. There's some real asswipes I'd like to use that on.

The trouble with that is most of the world would be on my ignore list.

Ignore lists can serve a purpose, but they defeat the point of using a forum...which is interaction with others.

I don't think I've got anyone on mine, but I have had in the past. I put people on ignore if they're irritating me or if I feel I'm irritating them. It's better to do that that have an online squabble. Then when the dust settles I remove them from the list and peace and harmony is restored!

The ignore feature is a very personal one, as are the details of who is ignoring who; and, as evidenced in this thread, public discussion generally leads to rubbernecking and finger pointing, which isn't healthy when trying to maintain a friendly environment.

I'm not going to close the thread (yet) because it's mainly been light-hearted, but please don't mention specific individuals you are ignoring (or alude to who they are with such detail as to make them easily identifiable!).

The thing about the ignore list....

you're not really ignoring them. To ignore someone doesn't mean to exclude their voice, however loathsome, from the debate, to block their contributions, which is what putting someone on the ignore list means.

better by far to leave them in your stream and just ignore what they have to say. Don't feed the trolls.

fwiw I think too much colour bleeds over from P&L into the other parts of CC. I try to take each post at face value and try, often unsuccessfully, not to read into it my own 2D projection of the poster.
