First Ride

Evening been for my first ride tonight on my new bike with my 11 year old son on his road bike we did 6.5 miles averaging 17 kmh which I thought was quite a good start.he has a viking phantom which has thicker tyres on it but the more he gets into it then ill invest in some proper road wheels for him.

Enjoy - if he's just starting off that's fine. The Viking is OK as a starter bike; my youngest started with a Decathlon Triban Junior, which is similar, and he's now upgraded.

Hi,

The wheels don't look very sexy, but your best investment IMO is some
some nice tyres, a bit smaller width perhaps (and checking and tweaking
the spoke tensions to improve the feel of the wheels). Keep the tyres
to refit when the bike is inevitably outgrown, when moving it on.

What size is fitted ?

IMHO kids grow so fast i would just get soem better tyres which will make the most difference and get him a better bike next time or if you are really keen for him to get a good bike and dont mind paying for quality .......

Wheels on it are 24 x 37

Been out on my own tonight did 12.8 miles average speed 13.7 mph and that's after a 13 hour shift lol

You're going faster than many on here were when we started cycling. I remember it took me 30 minutes to cover 5 miles in January

Just like to say, that would be about what I do now! Though on a heavy hybrid with bags, to be fair. It's utilitarian!
