First Road Bike! Excited

I decided a couple of days ago I'm gonna go with the Triban 5. Black/Dark Grey with the little blue bits dotted about the frame/forks.

My decision was confirmed further this afternoon when I saw in Halfords they were selling Carrera bikes with the same frame but lesser transmission for £200 more so as soon as Decathlon have my size in stock, I'll be placing my order.

Nevertheless I'd love to head your opinions on whether I've made a good choice for my first bike. Also, if you can recommend a good, clear, user-friendly speedometer/computer that'd be awful kind of you! I'd like to track routes (which I can do with my phone) and mileage from my very first ride on the bike!

Thanks in advance! Hope you're all well.

It matters not one bit what anyone thinks, the only thing that matters is what you think.

The triban range seem to be highly regarded on this forum and a popular choice of value for money bikes. There seems to be some question regarding wheel quality and these are often upgraded by owners.

If it makes you smile, and you ride it frequently.. its a great bike IMHO.

Tribans seem to have a good name.Enjoy it. I have found Halfords computers pretty good and reliable.I have used their wired and wireless ones and found them very accurate once you get them calibrated. Use their instructions to get started then tweak it a bit to get it fully accurate. I get within 1 or 2 km accuracy over 100 kms .

If you have never been on a Road Bike I suggest trying one out first, they are a real shock to the system especially coming from a Mountain Bike for example.

Regarding cycle computers, I quite like the look of the Knog N.E.R.D. 9 or 12, they easily attach to the bike, is wireless, waterproof and has touch screen, I'm not sure if they do what you want though.

I'm glad you said that, it only takes me one bad review & I'm looking at the next bike up in price & before I know it I'm looking at £2000 bikes! I've come to learn that not everybody's going to see to eye & the Triban 5 falls nicely into my price range & the spec, as far as I can see, is pretty good to get started on. I'll definitely look more into different wheels & try to compare a few once I get going in that case!

Thanks for that, I'll try find some reviews of the ones they offer! I never think to look there as I've never had a great experience with them but I won't rule them out!

I've never ridden one, however I sat on one on a stand in Halfords today & I liked it! I've only ever ridden a mountain bike but that was years ago, I tried my friends hybrid a year ago which was nice but the position on the road bike I sat on today was quite comfortable in comparison, although I've lost 3stone since I last sat on any bike so that may be why

That's certainly an odd looking pair of cycle computers! I only want to track my mileage. I can use CycleMeter to track my routes which will also record my mileage but it won't display my total, and there's always that possibility of my phone dying, so my main need is to keep a record of each journeys mileage and total mileage

Have a great time on your new bike TehOne.
I sometimes use cyclemeter on my phone when I remember, which does everything that a computer would.

Thanks  I think that might be my best bet! It's just a pain when you go somewhere the app doesn't know is a proper route so it struggles to calculate the distance, I've gone on runs/walks with WalkMeter & it's said I've walked 8miles when I know for a fact it's only been 4 or 5, cause it doesn't recognise a footpath & therefor bounces about between points it does recognise haha hopefully that won't be too much of a problem on roads but I'd like to go cycle around Whitlingham in Norfolk & I'm pretty sure that's not properly mapped

I like a computer on my handlebars, it can be very motivating. I had a simple 5 function Cateye on my old bike which was very good, but on the new bike I wanted one with more functions and more importantly a battery warning indicator, so went for the Giant Axact 11. The Giant has been a great computer so far, and persauded my local Giant store to discount it to online prices.

Yeah, I'm liking the idea of having a nice little screen with all of my info on the handle bars, right in front of me  I like the look of all of the Giant computers, specially the Neos Pro ANT+ & for £54 it's a lot cheaper than many I've seen, with a whole bunch of features! Spoilt for choice haha
