I'm planning on upgrading from my flat bar hybrid to a drop bar road bike, I've never ridden drop bar before.

As a slightly heavy chap (about 14st) I'm not overly fussed about getting a super light carbon machine and like the look of steel bikes.

I've found a good deal (and had a test ride) on a Genesis equilibrium 10 2015. Being an indecisive sort I wondered if anyone on here had one or had ridden one and had any thoughts.

I mostly use my bike to commute but plan on getting out at the weekend for some longer rides this year and maybe trying a sportive out.

Nice bike, pretty light for a steel frame, smooth ride. Takes proper mudguards and 25mm tires. I got mine for audaxes/club rides, it's a good choice for long rides. Can't think of anything negative to say about it!!

Super choice  I've got a 2013 20 frame albeit bespoke spec on everything else

No rack mounts but easily attached with p clips

Contemplated getting one myself as a winter bike.
Great looking bike and as was mentioned before has full mudguard mounts.
Also i just fancied a nice retro looking steel bike to add to my collection. Buy it, I doubt you'll regret it.

I did over 4,000 miles on my Eq Disc 10 last year and loved every one of them. Great looking bikes, as adaptable as just about any road bike on the market and a really nice ride.

I've since bought a Boardman CX and it's not a patch on the Genesis.

The steel does soak up the road buzz, but it's worth mentioning that it is a very stiff frame, so good power transfer but maybe not as comfy as some of the more sportive-y kind of numbers out there like the Synapse etc. This could be a factor if cobbles and/or lots of century rides are in your thoughts.

I made the same choice as you - heavy rider negates the need for featherweight bike and like the look of steel bikes. I don't regret it. I don't actually have a Genesis, I went for a Spa which is along the same lines, but Genesis was on my list and I doubt you will regret it.

My Genesis is under 9kg without rack and mudguards, it's barely heavier than my carbon. And that's with 32/36 spoke handbuilt wheels

Won't be bad unless its broken or stolen.
