Hi,

Looking to purchase my first road bike have up £500 to spend, I am looking for something that i can go away with friends for the day riding.

I have looked at the following bikes so far not sure if these are the best to purchase or any alternatives.

BTWIN Triban 500 - http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-500-road-bike-id_8306944.html Liked the bike but not sure about the wheels/ quality...

Pinnacle Dolomite One - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/pinnacle/dolomite-one-2014-road-bike-ec054867

Specialized Allez C2 -http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/allez-c2-2014-road-bike-ec052336

Thanks

Bri

Taking the Allez out a test on Friday, couldn't get the defy for a test ride as they didn't have my frame size.

They'd all benefit from better wheels & tyres. £70ish for a pair of Shimano RS01 on the Triban and reckon you'd be sorted. http://www.merlincycles.com/shimano-r501-wheels-49086.html

Has a carbon fork which makes it preferable to the others IMO. I think Pinnacle bikes are heavy and cheap looking, Specialized common as muck

Defy a good call, look at Ashcycles for deals on older models. Or Rutland for a very good deal on the 3 as above

I'm also going to add this to the list as it's different and has SRAM (but no carbon fork unfortunately)

was going to get a defy and from what i have heard they are very good so i would recommend @BRIMCV has a word with @Saluki on this one

after all i bought my first road bike on here

The thing that I like about my Defy is that the welds are smooth. I really dislike ugly big welds that look like I did them after half a bottle of red. Some of the bikes out there nowadays have a lovely spec but are spoiled by lumpy welding. I know that I might just have a neatness thing going on in my head but that's me really.

I saw a review of a defy (0 i think ) and i thought tbh the welds looked lumpy compared to my boardman, not as bad as some i must admit.
