I had some odds & ends of food left at work today, and owing to meetings / calls etc. I didn't get the chance to nip out and top up my work food stock.

So, lunch consisted of a cup of tea, two plain bagels, toasted, buttered and filled with raspberries & blackberries topped off with a splodge of runny honey - flippin' lovely! What a discovery

Had a banana and an orange for dessert; still not sure why I needed a fruity dessert after that but never mind.

It set me thinking; what instant inventions have you thrown together that have become regular snacks or meals?

Spaghetti with cheese and tuna. People think it's horrible, but it is lovely, and the cheese, if melted properly binds it all together!

Instant noodles (the supernoodle sort, only Sainsburys Basic brand), forget the seasoning and cook in plain water. Meanwhile, make up a cupasoup (flavour of choice, I like chicken) quite thick. When noodles are cooked, drain them, and dump into soup. Eat.

Toasted cheese and jam sandwich.

Ok, doesn't sound good but I could have posted 'warm crusty baguette filled with french brie and dressed with cranberry conserve'. Then charged £3 to make you one.

Just this evening I looked in the fridge and realised I'd forgotten to go shopping, so my dinner was an on-the-fly invention of home-made bread, a large tin of toasted aduki beans (drained, salted and gently fried in a little olive oil until they go crunchy), served with chopped tomato tossed in crushed garlic, salt, pepper and olive oil, with a bowl of rocket on the side. Fecking delicious, I'd make it again even if I had been shopping!
