First tour of the year

Next weekend I have my first tour of the year. With my husband and one of my friends, we are riding from Edinburgh to Carlisle through the borders for three days. Short UK tours really keep my spirits up during the year when I can't go on a longer holiday, so I'm dead excited about this one. I don't know how many of you tour during all but the darkest months of the year but it's something I've indulged in for several years now. What was your first tour this year?

I always do a spring tour but due to a few health issues I'm having to miss it this year. I'm not happy but I'll be off in June to the Pyrenees and JUly to Germany so I'll have to be patient!

Have a good time Kirstie and I hope the weather is kind :sun:

I'm off for a few days at the end of March and I'm looking at probably a tour along the Solway from Dumfries and up the coast to Ayr. This should be my first solo tour

Have a good ride Kirstie, that's some very nice countryside you'll be riding through.

I've got a couple of mini tours lined up:

Liverpool - Leeds along the canal at Easter
Way of the Roses at Spring Bank Holiday immediately after I get back from the Knockengorroch festival.

The biggie for this year is Beaune to Vienna along the Eurovelo 6 route - the outward coach is booked.

Should be a nice ride. I like the borders but I have only cycled through them once.

I keep trying to persuade my sons yo join me for a weekend tour but to no avail.

Thanks for your good wishes - I've ridden a lot of the borders but not this particular set of roads (SW from Innerleithen - the pass into Innerleithen from Edinburgh is one of my favourites and I'll never tire of it). I'm going past the tibetan buddhist centre on day 2 so I hope to pick up some good vibes!

I really enjoyed the ride to Innerleithin from Edinburgh. A local cyclist pulled alongside as I was approaching Innerleithin and told me a tale about a bag piper's memorial stone by the roadside and the treacherous act that lead to the demise of the said piper through exhaustion. Great tale. Fantastic scenery.

Good show, Kirstie. No cycling yet so far this year, though I did venture up to Scotland last weekend for a spot of walking. The first day, a walk across Rannoch Moor, was abortive as after 1.5 hours of walking in the rain and meeting an un-fordable burn, we accepted defeat at the hand of the elements and turned back. Day two was mostly sunny and managed a successful climb of Goat Fell on Arran (something I wanted to do after cycle touring across Arran en route between Carlisle and Fort William at the end of last April and seeing it).

Anyhow, I don't think I'll be doing a "proper" tour until at least May or, more likely, June. Last year, I did manage a few days touring Essex and Suffolk at the end of March as a warm-up for the aforementioned venture to Scotland. I think the issue for me is the shortness of the days and that now I prefer camping, which I would find a lot more difficult until the days get longer and warmer.
