First trip out loaded Dawes Galaxy

I took my Dawes Galaxy for a run out today loaded (35miles). It was a test run for my coming tour in May. The bike felt as steady as a rock and a pleasure to ride with no issues at all. I would say that it felt better to ride loaded than unloaded.... its just amazing!

Yes, it's a nice feeling when you have a full load on the bike!

It has a lot more momentum so runs a bit more smoothly over little bumps and things. Takes a bit more effort to start and stop it, and get up hills, but it descends quickly!

Just thinking about it makes me want to go off somewhere...

Galaxies go really well with a load. Did you have front and rear panniers - it's like pedalling along in a bungalow!
I've got my first loaded tour of the year next weekend, and my Ultra's first outing of the year. We are riding from Edinburgh to Carlisle for three days and I can't wait!

My Ultra Galaxy just feels right somehow with a full load. That reminds me, I need to treat it to a new front rack now I've got a job.

No issues found it was a pleasure to ride. 21st May I am taking the bike express down to Peripignan for a tour around southern france. Its my first forgeign tour so I'm really excited.

I had panniers on the front and back full up so it was a good test of the bikes handling. Not sure about the quality of the front rack it was an ebay purchase for about £15 so I might invest in somthing a bit better. Any ideas anyone?

That was one of the most noticable things being loaded really makes for a smoother and less bumby ride it felt perfect

Kirstie, good luck on your short tour hope the weather is kind to you, have fun!

I have front and rear on my tourer and they're superb. Guaranteed for 10 years and within the first three years they grant worldwide delivery of all tubus spare parts for registered customers. They "send by courier to any place in the world free of charge". Can't do better than that can you?

Good to hear that you enjoyed your first outing on your laden steed. Sounds like the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

I remember when I did my first tour back in 2005 and how when I first set off on my Thorn Raven Tour it felt like I was riding an oil tanker. Of course, if I'd been sensible and beforehand done a practice ride with all four panniers then I'd have known...doh! Still, it all worked out wonderfully, I'm pleased to say.
