1.I have been a members on here for quite while and this is my first visit to this section.

2, Do any of you enjoy your commute to work? Because it does not sound like it. It is full of head cam wanna be policemen and reports of bad driving.

3. There are two things you can be certain of and that are not news worthy or interesting. The police are not interested and there are bad drivers everywhere. So why does everyone keep reporting these things on here?

4. Why not post new safer routes between places, more aggressive riding techniques, because a lot of the pinch incidents on the Web cam films are causer by timid riding.

5.I am not knocking anyone but read through the posts and you will see what impression a first timer gets.

Steve

1. No it's not.

2. Yes I do enjoy my commute.

3. What 2 things? This paragraph makes no sense.

4. We have helped people in the past to find new "safer" routes. People do post more assertive (NOT agressive-massive difference) riding techniques.

5. See post 1. @gaz states you've been here before.

In between here and there
shoot happens whether by car, foot, bus, motorbike, tube or bike. Just the bike is more enjoyable and this is a cycling forum so shoot gets commented on.

I commute Coventry to Nuneaton and back, for years I only had my bikes and commuted in all weathers, last year I got a car but my first choice commuting tool is still my bike, I'll use the car if its wet or I'm running errands I can't do on the bike but I'd rather be pedalling.

I ride from south woodford to the wharf and back twice weekly, there has been a couple close shaves, mainly with white van/bus drivers but all in all i enjoy it, I commute for two reasons, i hate the tube but currently not fit enough to do 5 days so those 2 days during the week are brilliant, hoping to advance to 3 days soon. there is nothing nicer than leaving the house @ 6am on quiet roads, this morning it was dark and i loved the quietness of those streets, my second reason is for fitness body shape is changing weight is coming off and i enjoy the freedom of not sitting in a tin can stuck in traffic!

One thing i would like is to chat more as it can become a tad boring, but it seems on my particular commute people don't do that often ;-)

I mostly enjoy my commute but I find it hard to stand by when I see people do something wrong hence the postings about RLJ's etc. and the helmet cam proved invaluable when I got knocked off last year.

Also, as bad as it can be, cycling to work in London is infinitely preferable to going by bus or tube - if I had more time, I'd go back to walking but an hour there and an hour back is too much of a chunk from my day...

My commute from the burbs to Central London is the best part of my working day.
I have a camera and almost always delete the footage without reviewing. It's just there to record the facts if needed, or anything interesting which may happen. Most of the time it's ignored once on the move.

Just before I saw this thread I posted in "tales from today's commute" not about a "bad" incident, but a PB encouraged by another (faster) rider. Sometimes things go wrong, sometimes they go well. I think there's a decent mix of postings here considering the context.

I enjoy my commute, and I enjoy interacting with the traffic. I go out of my way to be a responsible cyclist, and find most drivers can see what I'm trying to do. There's the odd idiot, but that's just life.

The only thing I don't like about my commute is a horrendous hill at the start of my commute to work, and at the end of my commute home.

I love the rest of it!

It's sad that you seem to have this "there's nothing you can do about it to make it better so just shut up" attitude.

Although if you do believe that, why aren't you applying such an attitude to yourself?

If we put - 'rode to work today - got to work - rode home' it would be a bit pointless and uninteresting - the unusual things that happen are the interesting ones that get posted - 99% of riding is quietly enjoyed and not written about - think that is pretty normal for most forums
(never see a post 'my bike is working perfectly - what should I change?') ^_^

I love cycle commuting, I have been forced onto the bus the past couple of days as the bike was in Evans with BB problems and a service, my whole body started to miss cycling, its like a natural instinct now to ride a bike everyday. I started to feel a little depressed not been on the bike, the sad realisation that I had to waste an hour of my life stuck on a bus tipped me over the edge BUT I am back on the bike and cannot wait to cycle home on our dangerous, over crowed roads full of nobbers of all sorts and transport modes. Give me an emotional ride over a dull cycle lane ride with boring mindless 5mph bikes.. Yawn...
