Fish disappears during holiday!

We went away for a week and came back to find that instead of five fish...we only had four! We put in a feeding block that seems to have kept them all well fed but one has completely disappeared!!! There's no sign of it at all. Could the others have eaten it?

Outside, or in a tank? Died, then got sucked into the filter?

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I doubt it very much. Do you live in the country or town or city? It could be a cat, or heron, or some other predator that took it. At least you have 4 left. That better than nothing

Sorry, should have said...small tank inside. I'll check the filter but it's a small unit so not sure...I'll take a look now.

They are not inclined to eat each other if they are the same size/type but if it's just died it decomposes pretty quickly. I suppose they may have eaten it once it was dead. I have had a few disappear over the years too.

Don't know much about tropical fish, but small ones like neons like mo says can decompose very quickly, and it is feasible that it could have been eaten. Its a mystery.....

Never thought of that. Yep, could have jumped out if you don't have a lid.

If you have small children, they can sometimes do things out of curiosity that they get too freaked out to tell you about, so it may turn up hidden somewhere.... we had 2 gerbils when ours were small and the gerbils' detachable tufts on the end of their tails turned up behind the sofa 'by magic'.

We had a goldfish that disappeared overnight. It was in a fishbowl on a high shelf in my son's bedroom and somehow our kitten got in by pushing the door open, climbed the wall-mounted shelves and was discovered by Mrs B sitting beside the empty bowl licking its lips.

We hadn't had time to name the fish, but posthumously called it Malone. This was in recognition that everything would have been fine if only the kitten had left hi'm alone'.

Never thought of this! Just checked and not there either. They're the little tropical fish so guess it must have been eaten/decomposed
