I have several telescopic rods from a little Wal-Mart cheapie I caught lake Eire perch, Cod with a big telescopic beachcaster and many trout (and cod!) on a 5 piece carbon-fibre fly-rod. They all pack pretty small and I've caught edible fish on all of them.

I took a telescoping rod and a spinning reel with me on a 3500 kilometre trip through Alaska, Yukon & British columbia, where there is some of the best fishing in the world (Mmmm! arctic grayling)

However, I ended up casting a line maybe twice over two months and finally shipped the tackle home. Cycling long distances over rough terrain left little energy for fishing expeditions. I just wanted boiling pasta and sleep. Looking back though, i wish I had put more energy into putting some fresh trout in the pot.

had some brill summer hols when I was a kid in Germany when my dad was there with the Army

telescopic rod taped to the top tube of an army cycle and off in all directions every day in search of lakes and rivers, invariably in baking heat

nt sure kids are allowed to disappear all day on a bike any more but happy days arriving home sweaty and burnt and smelling of maggots and sweetcorn (army tinned sweetcorn but they sadly didn't stock maggots in the quartermaster's store

I've cycled with a guy who uses an old coffee tin (I know we don't get these in the uk). you put your hand inside and the line is wrapped around the outside. seems very effective and compact...
