I've have yet to realise my 20+ year old ambition to visit the place but today I got to sample one of their wares, sarsaparilla syrup, bought from a farm shop/restaurant on the outskirts of Leeds. I'm hooked!

Has anyone visited Fitzpatrick's place?

What is it like?

Is it a worthwhile experience?

Not been, but have bought some blood tonic for my gran in the past.

I seem to recall the chap who runs/owns it getting into trouble for not sampling his own wares before driving. Last year or the year before I think.

I've not been there Vernon, but it sounds great.

Incidentally I was interested to see a thread with the words Temperance Bar started by you - completely took me by surprise

Since getting back from my mid-August tour I've drank a bottle of Czech beer, a small bottle of cider and a small tot of rum. I can be a sensible drinkler as well as an insensible drinker.

Sarsaparilla eh? Reminds me of Petticoat Lane market in the early 60's.

It's very tasty.

Never been, but Booths supermarket at Ilkley are a good stockist, I prefer their Bundaberg root beer to the sarsaparilla. Would like to try Mr Fitzpatrick's "Blood Tonic"!

Vern, please don't waste your time. It used to be a cranky eccentric place where they served bizarre drinks from a hand pump but in the last few years they have modernised it and it's just become a tasting place for those overpriced factory-made cordials, which you can buy anywhere. They pour an inch into a small glass and top it up with carbonated water and you hand over a large amount of cash. Very disappointing.

Not to mention that the new owner got prosecuted for drink driving recently - you couldn't make it up, could you?

Thanks for that insight. It confirmed my fears after looking at the Fitzpatrick's drinks web site.

I thought that it was too modern to be associated with the cranky institution that was portrayed in the article that I read twenty or so years ago. I wish that I'd visited the place when I first had the inclination.

This is the website for the retailing of the drinks. The Fitzpatrick's Bar web site is being redeveloped and is offline.

Glad to be able to sve you some time and money, which can be better spent on enlarging your knowledge of the world of pies. Any time you want to nip over the Pennines for a pie sampling session I'd be happy to cycle out to a nearby Booths to sample the tea and pies with you. Windermere Booths has a nice cafe, so does Preston.

They're not gourmet pies to vernon's standard by any stretch, but TUNSTALLS in Darwen do some great everyday grab one for your dinner, (that's lunch if you're posh or Southern ), type pies.

My particular fetish from them is their Pea & Ham pie :mrpig: Well filled and with proper chunks of off the bone ham to chew on :hungry:
