Hello

I'm new here but today while on my commute I went through a red light (from a standing stop as I was halfway across already and there were no people crossing or cars and a woman in front of me got through...just in case anyone wants to know/have a go)

I've just moved house and gave them my old address, and the name is spelt wrong. Moral issues aside, as frankly I just don't want to pay as I'm skint having had to replace nearly a whole bike thanks to criminals, are they going to be able to find me?

Thanks

The 'halfway across already' might be a justification if you were halfway across* when the lights went to amber.
The fact that the woman in front of you got across is no excuse whatsoever.

I suspect you have just made things much worse by giving false information.
If they want to find you and they have your old address, it shouldn't be difficult for them to locate you.
If I were you I'd get in touch and try to excuse your lies by pretending you'd given your old address by mistake. Better to own up before they find you and give you a penalty for providing false information as well as for jumping a red light.

*Edit: halfway across the white line, that is, not halfway across the junction.

Jumping a red light and perverting the course..... Criminal, should be hanged by the neck. people like you give us cyclists a bad name

Seriously though, you jumped a red light in full view of a policeman/PCSO so I have to question your skills of observation and therefore your ability to decide you were 'safe' to do so. I am afraid I also have to question your judgement, for trying to avoid punishment by fraudulent means and then coming on to a cycling forum to discuss it.

Take it like a man and move on my friend (and I will openly admit that I do not stop at every red light I encounter before anyone accuses me of a 'holier than thou' attitude).

It can be fairly easy to find a person, especially when you have access to the correct systems.
I'm with Spinney on this one, you may well have made things worse by giving false and misleading information. Get it corrected before they decide to chase you pn that one as well.

Your employer may not take too kindly to you getting a criminal record if they pursue you for giving false info

He was very sneaky and standing behind a phone box...as for the address, i fancied giving myself a chance of getting out of it. haha
halfway across was me going for it then realising i wasn't going to make it. the dude only saw me round the corner while my side was red, didn't care much about my excuses or the lady in front it seems. His excuse for her was 'she went round the lorry.' strong! Broke the law blah blah blah, this might be true but i don't want to pay it either way. My main concern is if they will find me via linked addresses even with the name spelt wrong (his fault not mine.)

When you say 'standing stop' I'm assuming you went over the correct stop line for the lights and then stopped halfway across the junction and then continued once it was safe but with the lights still on red?

If this is the case then I would do as others suggest and let them know of your 'error' as soon as possible to avoid it getting any worse for you, bite the bullet and take it as a lesson learned

You are not going to get out of it. Man up and pay the notice. They will come looking for you and the more you leave it the worse it will become for you. The notice doesn't give you a criminal record however avoiding the fine on purpose will do.
You don't have to go to any police station to confess. Call the number on the notice and pay by card.

the offence is crossing (which means any part of the vehicle, not just the front) the stop line on red or amber (unless on amber it would be dangerous to do so).

So it depends what you mean by "halfway across"?
Halfway across the stop line = offence
Over the stop line and stranded by the changing lights = no offence

As above, fess up. You're not going to get away with it and it'll look a lot better if you come forward with the proper address sooner rather than later.

I think I've got a pretty good idea what your name really is (as a moderator I can see some information about you that most members can't). Should the police find this thread and ask Shaun (the owner) for any details he has about you, he will pass them on.

Giving false information to the police is stupid.
Coming on here and telling the world about it is even more stupid.

This is why insurance is a good idea

Sort this out as suggested, don't be one of those criminals
