we got a new fitted dishwasher last year, replacing the old one, keeping the same outer door.

It won't stay shut long enough to finish a cycle.

Can anyone see anything wrong with the latch bits below, or know what the third picture is of?

Warranty? John Lewis give 2 years

Why did you keep the same door? Or do you mean it's built in?

That last pic doesn't look 'right'. Surely that 'catch' shouldn't be just poking out over the top of the white tapey thing like that? Maybe try seeing if it resists poking back with an electrician's screwdriver and if not push it back 'into place' and see whether that changes anything?

Check that the "locking latch" isn't in the locked position( as in the when the door is shut and locked) it may be that the latch hasn't fully unlocked when the door was opened and sprung back into locked position.
If mt memory serves me right, the latch in the third pic is a lever to open the door, if the catch ever breaks and the door won't open when shut and locked.
Hope this helps, post back if not, and I'll see if I can give further help. Just for info I repaired domestic appliances for 15 yrs in a previous job.

Thanks for responding - by "locking latch" you mean the dark bit in the second picture? I'm not sure it moves, but I'll check.

The old machine had a plastic but sticking down that you had to push back if you had interrupted a cycle.

Is this a Bosch? We have just got one, only put it on once so far to test the new waste pipe, all the controls got wet which I didn't think was right, that little grey thing is supposed to be the child lock

Yes, the locking latch is either in the door or on the frame of the machine itself. It should rotate in some way as it needs to activate the micro switch behind it.
If your dishwasher will operate with the door open, it's almostly a certainty that there's an issue with the door catch.

So I think that is the child lock, (pic 2 dark bit) and it's down when it should be up. So when I close the door to start it, it doesn't close properly. Cycle starts and two minutes later the door pops forward and the cycle stops.

It turns out picture three is of the childlock activation tab/lever. I poked it a bit and it disappeared so I hope we never want to use the child lock!

I put a spoon handle behind the childlock and used both arms to pull forward, forcing it back into the housing.

...cycle is running now.

I don't think that is the child lock, it looks more like the door catch.
You will need to reset it so that when you shut the door the door catch will lock.
