I've got a fully commuterised 2011 Sirrus Elite, cost me £450. After my 2010 Sirrus sport was nicked, I looked at all sorts of others, up to £700-800, nothing else came close to the Sirrus in the way of a flexible fast flat bar... try to get a 2011 model, better specced than the equivalent 2012

I have a carbon roadbike for sunny weekends (have never been on the drops) and a MTB for roughness...and an exercise bike for watching the TV

If I had a spare grand, I'd have a Planet X carbon flat bar bike

sorry guys - but this thread was about who had flat bar roadies and what they thought of them

not a change stem, keep the drops etc etc thread......

i've already decided that i'm having the ridgeback ultralight 03 (flat bar roadie).........and i'm keeping the drop bar bike and the hybrid - so it will be a n+1+1..........#winning

the ridgeback will be used for many things, the summer commute (30mile round trip) the saturday trip to the parents (20mile round trip) the odd 30 miler ............the hybrid will be used for the winter duties and the drops for long distance rides audax's and sportives

Having re-assessed my options today i have settled on the Felt Z85 drop bar roadie.

And putting my old forks back on the raleigh so i can use bigget tyres and mudguards for the commuting in the summer.

Felt qx65 hybrid for the winter drudgerry.

Sorry only just seen this thread. I've got one of these and love it. I had an all carbon drop bar bling machine before but wasn't riding it because of lower back problems. The more upright position this offers me is great and Evans have it listed as a fraction under 10kg.

I won't bore you with detail 'cos it looks like you've decided to keep with the drops, but if there's anything else you want to know then pm me.

Have you considered the Ridgeback Supernova? Described at a Fast or Sports bike. Mine weighs 10.5 kg. Shod with Conti Contact 700 x 32c, I use it on tracks as well as roads. It's not as fast as my Spesh Allez Sport, but fast enough. Great for either touring or fast day runs. I fitted Ergon GC3 grips and these are comfortable all day long.

i looked at the supernova - but the ultralight 03 comes in at 9.2kg and can take 28's.........

but my felt hybdrid is doing well at the commute duties, so i'm going for the felt z85 with full 105 groupset now instead.

Do what I did and get a Cannondale Quick 3 SL and stick some eg Fulcrum Quattros on it and you can fit anything from 23mm slick to 40mm knobbly tyres and have a blast on the road (as fast as you can pedal basically) or off-road.

Weighed in in road mode around the 9.5kg mark at its lightest, I'm sure you could get it down below that but anyway you're a powerful enough guy.

Very upright ride position and much more versatile than a flat bar road bike but just as quick.

Sell it on two and a half years later to someone you think will love and cherish it, only to see them flog it a month later!
