Flat barred roadie bikes?

Anyone got any recommendations? My mrs wants one but most seem to be a bit hybridey. I've looked at the Boardmans and the Scott S60 but want to see what else is available.

Oh and there's no chance of getting her on drops, i've tried!

The Sirrus sport comes highly recommended. I purchased an 06 model from fleabay having taken advice from ‘the wise ones’ and I love it.

As mentioned, The Spesh Sirrus range is pretty good (I've got the Comp model). The Giant FCR range is worth a look as they're supposed to be sportier - I was steered away from them due to a weight/pothole interface problem .

I've got a Sirrus sport too an 06 model too, its a great bike although I've fitted it with drops now and its even better. I think however they've down geared it it used to have a 52T chain ring. A colleague has just bought a Marin Fairfax through cyclescheme if I was buying now I think I'd follow that route or more likely buy a dropped bar bike but that's not an option for you.

Everyone I know with a Sirrus loves it, for what that's worth. They seem quite nippy too, judging by the speed I see them going on the commute.

Giant's FCR hybrid is supposed to be pretty much an SCR roadbike with flat bars.

Specialized Vita range is worth a look - ladies specific and quite sporty.

In fact, we have a Vita Comp 08 for sale in a small size :-) Suits lady height 5'0" to 5'3"

Less than 200 dry miles. And bought in Lincoln from Arrow Cycles at North Hykeham in April 08.

Opposite to you - I thought I'd never get her on drops but she insisted she wanted a bike with drops after we'd bought this one! She's now got a Spec Ruby Comp and loving it.

Thanks for the offer but she's almost certainly going to be a medium mens - 5'10+

Ridgeback do some nice ones ranging from quite cheap to quite pricey. I think most or all of them have slightly more relaxed geometry than a pure road bike but they are still nice and a quick. I rode an 06 Genesis Day 01 for a while and it was very nice. I still have it actually but now my fixed road bike gets all the attention.

Well decision made, she had a look at the FCR and decided it didnt look as nice as the Scott. So I managed to get the bike shop to split the difference between the 08 and 09 prices and the S60 should be with me next week

Should be good, as long as she aint faster than me!

A Hyrbrid as the name suggest is a hybrid of different styles of bikes, some have a focus nearer ATB bikes

While others, like the Sirrus, have are set up as a fast straight bar road bike

The Scott seemed to be the most "sporty" of the sports hybrids so it seemed to be the one with the best chance of her being able to keep up with other riders and hopefully progress to something with drops in the future.
